Upon Infinity

Odilia Suanzes’ ethereal works are an exploration of the sublime – landscapes of experiences so overwhelming they are beyond description. Here, through painting, she tries to make sense of this phenomenon.

While the mind is responsible for complexities such as emotions, perceptions, reasoning and desires, Suanzes aims to create a connection between neurology, phenomenology and the sublime.

For Suanzes, the sublime is awakened in us through the senses, and by something vastly superior and unknown to the person perceiving it, manifesting in feelings of ontological insignificance. Her large dreamlike scapes respond directly to these heightened emotions experienced as she paints.
